Employing Staff
Once you have a Direct Payment or a Personal Budget you will be able to employ your own staff. This means you advertise, interview and appoint the right people that you wish to support you with your daily living. Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living provide the Direct Payment Support Service for Wiltshire.
Skills for Care have also developed a comprehensive toolkit for people to use when employing a Personal Assistant. They regularly revise and develop the toolkit which can be downloaded in word or audio format from the Skills for Care website.
Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living can provide your PA with the resource of coming into the office to use a dedicated laptop to access on-line training facilities. We can provide the password and username to log on to the training resource. This is supported by the Wiltshire & Swindon Skills for Care Department
The National Centre for Independent Living (NCIL) produced A Rough Guide to Managing PA’s and they can be contacted on 020 7587 1663 or at www.ncil.org.uk
It is important that you have the right advise when employing staff as you have the same legal responsibility to your staff as any other employer and you need to be aware of those responsibilities’ and obligations.
